HBS Mission: Since 1993, our mission has been to provide for the study, research, and preservation of the blues culture and music unique to Houston, Texas and the Texas Gulf Coast, and for the continued development of the blues tradition in Houston, Texas, and increased public awareness of the existence and value of that tradition. BLUES NEWS YOU CAN USE! The Houston Blues Society publishes our Blues Blast each week.  Please check it out for the calendar of upcoming events and the weekly Blues Jams around town. WHAT WE DO: Sponsor band and solo/duo competition to represent Houston Blues at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis annually. Promote the Jimmy "T-99" Nelson Scholarship for promising high school and college musicians. Host benefits to raise funds for musicians in need. Hold a monthly Blues Jam the last Thursday of each month featuring Houston's finest, and up-and-coming Blues artists. Showcase Houston Blues artists at other Houston events such as the Orange Show's Art Car Parade, the Kemah Crawfish Festival, and more!
